Epic RecordsZara Larsson spends a lot of time on social media tweeting and Instagramming her thoughts about various social and political issues, such as #BlackLivesMatter, the pro-life movement and women’s rights. And she doesn’t care if she loses fans because of her political views, either.
“When people are like, ‘This won’t be good for your career’…shut up!” she tells Entertainment Weekly. “You don’t care about my career. You just want me to not say anything. Women’s rights are more important than my career.”
“And if my career dies because I said something political? I don’t want to live in that world,” she insists.
The 19-year-old Swedish singer maintains that today’s music fans want their idols to take a stand.
“This new generation wants people to speak up,” she tells EW. “You don’t see an artist grow big without tweeting, except for very rare people like Ed Sheeran…I want to share my voice and everything I think. I don’t want to be an Ed Sheeran.”
Zara’s debut album So Good is out on Friday.
